commissioned by Kelly O’Brien of the Glass Slipper Gourmet, California
Kelly contacted me with a special mission to make a Crown Topper
for a Marie Antoinette inspired cake…………… to be on show at the
Una Bella Sera -
…
T
”

The brief was as follows:
Marie Antoinette inspired
Color: Gold/light to hot pink and hints of ivory
Style guide: Romantic, flirtatious, opulent
Kelly also attached a rough sketch and some of her thoughts
“My initial vision for the cake is soft pink icing with lots of gold, brocade, piping,
and dark-
I'll also include ivory ruffles and other accents (perhaps some lacy stuff), and perhaps airbrush the whole thing in ivory pearl to make it super shimmery and soft.
And, there will be OF COURSE! feathers!!!!”
I was delighted with the opportunity to make such a Crown Topper and decided
a good place to start my research and soak up some royal 18th c French splendour was by sitting back one afternoon and watching Sofia Coppola’s film
Marie Antoinette !
After this, armed with sketches and notes I felt confident that I could capture the essence of Kelly’s brief
I roughed out a couple of ideas and via the internet Kelly and I arrived at the final design.

Kelly’s response was
” I am absolutely in love with it!!!!!!!!!!! It's simply gorgeous!! I love the final lace detail you added ~ It's the perfect finishing touch! Everything about it is PERFECTION!!
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your contribution to the show cake... it's going to make such a huge impact on the final presentation! I'm also so pleased that you were able to make the "vision" in my mind come to reality... and so QUICKLY!! Thank you, thank you”
